This is beyond doubt a heritage which must be preserved so future generations know how much was contributed to Auckland's development by these enterprising early business families. I am in the process of doing a very long drawn out Masters thesis on NZ business history in which I hope to record the collusions of these early businessmen. Thanks for your sharing. My dad Tom ( T.E. Clark) was the other Tom Clark (not sir Tom) who was also heavily involved with Crown Lynn, then Ceramco, then NZ China Clays. Dad still works in the industry in New Lynn for a company called Imerys Tableware and design. So still keeping an association with pottery and the Clark name in West Auckland alive.Subliminalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01408167471770975543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7956530118104829841.post-69930472904332056012010-12-02T17:50:23.911+13:002010-12-02T17:50:23.911+13:00Very good information on the pottery industry in W...Very good information on the pottery industry in West Auckland can be found in "Fire on the Clay" by Dick Scott.Summer Sailorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02384578424391157622noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7956530118104829841.post-86596072639261170752010-12-02T17:48:57.941+13:002010-12-02T17:48:57.941+13:00Hi There. There were two R.O Clarks involved in the pottery industry at Hobsonville. Another grandson was T.E Clark (father of Tom Clark)who moved the Clark Pottery Ltd. Factory(later Amalgamated Brick and Pipe) from Limeburners Bay, Hobsonville to New Lynn where the business later transformed into Crown Lynn as consumer demands changed. I agree that all the companies had a significant role in the development of the industry.Summer Sailorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02384578424391157622noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7956530118104829841.post-81601238694122752752010-12-01T21:41:45.807+13:002010-12-01T21:41:45.807+13:00I am a descendant of William Johnson Parker and af...I am a descendant of William Johnson Parker and after researching the history of our family and the brickworks I found that the land where Crown lynn was built was first owned by Frank Jagger and William J Parker in the late 1800's, both prominent early businessmen. It was then sold to Gardner Bros. and Parker (William J Parker's son was a director). One of the Gardners was named Rice Owen Gardner. His signature is on the Company file of Gardner Bros. and Parker Ltdlocke. It is held at the National Archives. They later sold to Amalgamated Brick and Tile. Your Clark family history is interesting, but I think you have some confusion about the name being Rice Owen Clark. They certainly all contributed to the development of various brickworks in the New Lynn area.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7956530118104829841.post-15215416361397078682010-06-03T23:48:24.958+12:002010-06-03T23:48:24.958+12:00Hi
